About Fort McKinley, OH - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Located in Montgomery County, Ohio, Fort McKinley is an unincorporated community inside of the Harrison Township. Fort McKinley is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area and has a population of almost 4,000. The community lies northwest of Dayton and has a total area of 1.3 square miles.

Harrison Township, in which Fort McKinley lies, was settled by squatters at the turn of the 19th century. The first resident of the area was William King, a squatter from Kentucky.  The township’s first school house was made of log and was built in 1810 on the McConnell Farm. Beginning in 1868, many annexations of Harrison Township to the city of Dayton took place and lasted through the 1970s. In 1988, the City of Dayton proposed the consolidation of Harrison and Jefferson townships in the city but the proposal was unsuccessful.

Due to Fort McKinley’s location within the Dayton metro area, there are serval notable attractions located within a short distance of the community. Many museums such as the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, Benjamin and Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, Victoria Theater, and the Dayton Art Institute are within a short distance from Fort McKinley. Also, the SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park and the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park house artifacts and attractions that are relevant to the area.

Summers in Fort McKinley tend to be mild and pleasant. Daytime temperatures average in the mid-80s and dip into the mid-60s at night during the warmer months of the year. However, investing in an efficient cooling system will be necessary seeing that historic highs have reached into the 100s.

The months of winter in Fort McKinley see plenty of snow and freezing temperatures. Residents will want to have their heating pumps inspected by a professional to ensure they are up-to-date and prepared to handle the harsher weather of winter.
